If you review 14C it provides two options when a High ASH alarm is activated.
1. Initiate SDV function
OR
2. Remove all sources of ignition in the confined protected space. This includes systems that may be using DC Power/Battery Backup.
So, when it was brought to the attention of the individual conducting the audit, removing power (i.e. ignition source) from protected space, by means of an isolation circuit breaker, was acceptable per 14C, the crisis was averted.
Not all confined spaces have these electrical isolation devices and therefore the only options would be to SDV or kill the generators, but if these devices are installed they are perfectly acceptable per 14C as long as the isolation device are of a fail safe/supervised design and not located in the confined space being isolated.
Prior to resetting the isolation circuit breaker, ensure that the reading of the gas detector located within has dropped below the low alarm set point.
